Rockin' Rockies

I Painted this landscape in from reference photos that I took last summer in Colorado. The substrate was prepared by incorporating Kills oil primer with a 2 inch brush. While preparing the 3/8 board I made no attempt to create a smooth surface. While painting I used this texture to get some very interesting effects. This process is not something that I will use in all my upcoming works, but I will no doubt use this type of texture effect in a future series. I started the painting with an crimson base under painting fir the foreground, and a violet-blue base for the back ground. Following layers of oil glaze were applied to neutralize the initial colors and contrasts were created using complementary colors.
