I have been doing a lot of recent portrait paintingusing watercolors. I started using a watercolor canvass that is pre-stretched and the results are fantastic. Commissioned portrait work  in watercolor starts at $250 per subject. It is pretty general and strait forward really; send some photos that you like to me via e-mail; wedding, engagement, children, dog, or cat photos. I draw everything from scratch so we can pretty much combine photos any way you would like. I have posted some step by step examples here.

Here are some of my watercolor landscapes. Some were quick washes; some were meticulously layered with washes. It didn’t take long to realize that drying a layer on paper then washing another color over build color and contrast. Most of my watercolor landscapes are older because I have always been commissioned to paint portraits. You can see the progress I make in watercolor as you click through them. I would love to accept commissions for a watercolor landscape series, similar to the Glenwood pieces. There is a broad range here, the photo realistic watercolors just require more time and the process is the same. Depending on the viewer, most artist and critics would agree that less is more. I have prints available for the paintings above here.

Let the fun and games begin; watercolor has been my illustration medium of choice for the last few years. I am able to paint a page in about 6 hours. I always start with very diluted paints and build up layers of washes, always keeping a hair dryer handy to help speed up the dry time. I have recently been studying digital painting and will most likely be finishing off everything I have illustrated thus far digitally.

Most of my influences for this type of work are from old  “Creepy and Eriee”, magazines printed by Warren Publishing. As a young teen I found my dad’s old subscriptions and was overwhelmed by the artistic talent used to illustrate these magazines filled with fantastic short stories. I have begun to write, illustrate, and eventually animate my own Story named Faustition.
